To help manage these recruitment pain points, Job Boards, Applicant Tracking System (ATS) providers, and HR SaaS companies are using more and more advanced tools to streamline recruitment, automate tasks, and boost efficiency.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions such as resume parsers, are revolutionising the way recruitment is being managed by saving enormous amounts of time, improving accuracy and providing environments for data-driven decision-making that enable organisations to secure quality candidates. And, because of the time savings, they are improving the candidates’ experience with the organisation.
Charlie Bellingham is responsible for Affinda’s suite of recruitment AI products. The Company recently launched NextGen Resume Parser, which, according to Affinda is the most accurate resume parser available on the market. HR Tech Outlook Magazine spoke with Charlie in early April about this new technology and its potential to reshape recruitment:
HR organisations today are investing more and more in AI technology to assist with recruitment processes. What are some of the major benefits of the NextGen Resume Parser?
CB: When we speak to our customers, they repeatedly emphasise accuracy as one of their top priorities when selecting a resume parser. With this imperative, the team at Affinda was committed to creating the most accurate resume parser product in the market.
Firstly, we tested our performance against some of the leading global cloud-based resume parsing providers and found that on average, we are up to 50% better in extracting essential fields such as personal information, work experience and education details which are crucial pieces of information for our customers.
In addition, we expanded our data coverage to capture more information, ensuring that all unstructured data held in a resume, no matter their language or format, can be accurately extracted into a structured format.
Finally, the NextGen Resume Parser has been built with superior adaptability, ensuring that the data returned is in a usable and recognisable format for customers. A crucial aspect of this adaptability is the option for customers to customise their solution by selecting the desired taxonomies to use on different fields, either through our pre-configured options or by defining their own internal taxonomy. Consequently, all resume data extracted can be standardised into a universally accepted format.
CB: The HR industry provides the perfect playground for automating document workflows with AI technology, particularly for handling diverse resume formats. In recruitment, no two resumes are alike, making legacy technologies inaccurate or necessitating time-consuming manual processing, which is prone to human error.
AI technology excels at analysing the intricate details of resumes and rapidly extracting relevant information, making it a valuable tool to streamline the recruitment process. Whilst there will always be a need to interview the best candidates, the real value of AI is being able to review hundreds of job applications in a scalable way to find the best candidates quickly.
AI gives recruiters precision which means greater accuracy, measurable time savings and better decision making.![]()
"Once you know where to focus, it then comes down to finding the right AI solution for your needs," states Charlie Bellingham, Product Lead, Affinda
How do you think the future of AI will impact HR and recruitment processes?
CB: There has been a noticeable surge in the rate of change in the field of AI and this trend shows no signs of slowing down. The general population is getting more and more familiar with AI technology and its various applications and so there is a higher expectation for the integration of AI across different industries and use cases.
Continued advancements in AI technology will impact what candidates and recruiters expect from their resume parsers. It is anticipated that resumes uploaded onto recruitment platforms will be automatically processed with exceptional accuracy with minimal to no manual data entry required. Early adopters of AI technology in the HR and recruitment space will gain a competitive edge, as their recruiters will be able to operate much more efficiently and effectively. This will result in an enhanced experience for candidates using the platform, eliminating the frustration associated with manual data entry.
What would be your piece of advice for businesses in HR looking to implement AI technology?
CB: There are near endless applications for AI technology in modern businesses to improve efficiency and automate manual processes. However, for some businesses it is difficult to know where to start, especially for those who have been operating in the same way for the past 10+ years.
My biggest piece of advice would be to gain a thorough understanding of all your manual processes, especially those that take up a significant amount of your team’s time. Once you know where to focus, it then comes down to finding the right AI solution for your needs. I’d suggest trying several different providers so you can compare the results for yourself and get a feel for the best solution for your specific requirements.
